I bought this device because of the automatic motor shut off and the LED indicator changes from white to blue as soon as the pencil is sharpened. The feature only works with 3 of the 40+ pencils I've sharpened so far. Other times the motor keeps running but won't sharpen the pencil after it's been sharpened unless I push the pencil in with light pressure. the same inlet. Cons: The auto-off feature is unreliable. This is a trick. The main reason I bought this device is the auto shut off feature and the LED indicator light. Unfortunately it doesn't work reliably. To update: I ordered a replacement pad and the new pad auto-shutoff only works reliably if I push the pencil in with more pressure than usual while sharpening, otherwise the auto-shutoff does not work. It feels like the pressure is creating an extra strain. to the motor, and the device will detect this load and stop the motor. With an old block I can stick a pencil in the block and the motor will keep running 90% of the time. It looks like the load cell is not working properly. Maybe the second unit is defective as well, or it's just an unreliable design issue. If you're not interested in an all-purpose auto shut-off sharpener, buy another multi-inlet model.
