Our Quaker parakeet made a mess when things fell into his open water bowl. We also tried an all-plastic silo with gravity feed. After a day or two, food, semen, and excrement settled in the trough area and began creating smelly unsanitary conditions. We switched to this bottle after realizing that this brand is used and trusted by many animal professionals. It's clean and much more hygienic than what we've used before. One star deduction because the spring band was a bit short and therefore difficult to attach to the cage. Our solution was to lengthen it a bit by adding a clasp that makes it easier to put on.
