Review on Proctor Silex Coffee Maker, Black: Experience Quality Brewing at Its Finest by Christina Wilcox

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Coffee is drinkable but not very good

Someone gave me this coffee maker and after a few days of use I can say that this is a working coffee maker, especially considering the low price. As others have noted, the coffee has a strong plastic taste (not uncommon for a new coffee maker), but after a cycle of vinegar, a few cycles of plain water, and a few cycles of coffee, the plastic taste was gone. I didn't have the issues with a leaking carafe or water tank that some other reviewers had. But the coffee I get now is not the best I think because the water heats up to a higher temperature than in my old coffee maker and the high temperature of the water kills the taste. I've found that I have to use about 1/3 more coffee grounds to get a decent cup, and I also need to let it cool for about five minutes before drinking, which isn't good in the early morning if I'm just drinking want the caffeine in my system asap. I should also note that I drink my coffee black, so I'm a little more careful about how it's brewed; I think if I was a cream/sugar lover this coffee would be perfect.

Pros
  • Dishwasher safe parts
Cons
  • Some small things
