We bought a 60 year old house built in 1962 and we love it. It has the original wood cabinets in the kitchen that are made of solid wood. Not sure if it's old pine or oak or something else but it had roller style latches for the kitchen cabinets. Some of the latches had been replaced over time, but some look like the originals. Over time, the latches had tons of wear. Some still worked okay, but several were not working well. I decided to replace all of them with these magnet latches.I could not be happier. It took a lot of work, but most of the work involved removing the old latches. I spent about 3 hours replacing 12 latches. The beauty of these is that there is virtually NO MOVING PARTS, at least if you get them in place and secured tight. The rollers involved friction, and these donot.Placement and initial adjustment are the key to making these work properly. Once you get those two things right, you are good to go for ages to come. Place the magnet first. Secure it with two screws so that it is flush with the edge of your door. Adhere the backing to the plate on the non beveled side. Peel off the backing of the strip and place the plate on the magnet exactly to fit the magnet. Make sure to place the strip on the backside (non beveled). If your not sure what beveled means, look it up.Now close the cabinet door and let the sticky side of the adhesive strip stick to the edge of the door. Reach back and use your fingers to press the plate against the door and open the cabinet door so that the plate is now stuck to the door. If you cannot do that I found another way which I will explain. Now put two screws in that plate and you are good to go.In the case where you cannot reach around with your hand and place your fingers on each end of the metal strip to cause it to stick to the door, then use this method:Use a spare metal strip to attach to the magnet. Now place your metal strip with the adhesive side towards the door and the magnetic force is much weaker and will allow you to close the cabinet door and allow the adhesion to the door and then open the door without the magnet holding onto the metal strip because the magnet force is weaker. Attach the strip to the door with screws, remove the spare metal strip and you should be golden.
