Review on Origin Digital Elitech STC-1000 Temperature Controller - 110V Centigrade Thermostat with 2 Relays by Jonathan Clark

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A good, inexpensive, thermostatically controlled built-in switching unit.

These are the most affordable and versatile built-in thermostat switches I've found. However, to use them, you must have some basic wiring skills. They are not "plug and play". I placed the controller box in a 22.5cc switch box with a single outlet. It can be used without an output box, but I find it much easier to manage. Unfortunately, the STC-1000 block doesn't quite fit the standard wide-mouth wallplate cover, but a little trimming will make it fit (get the nylon). The device has side sliders to press it firmly against the plate. For the plug wiring, I buy either a 12/3 SJTW or a 14/3 extension and cut it to fit the STC-1000 box - that way you already have a plug and plug built into your electrical wire. Remove the rear wire protection plate on the STC-1000 to make room for wiring in the outlet. These units can be used for heating or cooling control - they have a dual relay switch. There is no need to reconnect the device for heating or cooling - this function is controlled via the temperature settings. Some people complain that there is no Fahrenheit scale. I'm not a Celsius person either, so I'll just print out a Celsius to Fahrenheit conversion chart, laminate it and place it next to the device for your convenience. On the back of the laminate I have instructions for setting up the STC-1000 unit.
