Rigid, need to be washed before use, after that they are very soft and silky. I like having different sizes for my different needs. Bra hooks do not go through the mesh, which is normal during the wash cycle. My old one missed the hooks and I kept having to unhook a few things, even the edges of the bag would get caught. I always wash my socks and stockings in mesh bags so I don't lose anything and these bags protect against pilling.
