I was looking for a simpler solution for a fitness padlock. I thought fingerprint padlocks were all the rage. MANY of these are featured on Revain. (I have since found out that almost all of them are Chinese resellers selling the same physical device). I didn't have much time to research, so I just grabbed the Revain recommended model and clicked pay. She arrived this morning. You need to install an app on your Android to set up fingerprints, and you can't do that without registering an account with your email address. Everyone. Single. Step. The process was difficult and frustrating. Several times I've been so close to canceling a purchase and returning a product that I've opened up an Amazon returns form and typed it out in my head. But. I finally got it working. And now that it has registered 4 of my fingerprints it meets the needs I bought it for so I'll give it a little more time before making a final decision. However, I wouldn't recommend this for someone who isn't willing to have a LOT of patience dealing with technical quirks. The app needed to manage this lock is hated almost everywhere. Just search OKLOK on Google Play and read all 1-star reviews. And while I agree that the app is pretty bad, I can see that most of these reviews are due to really bad design choices made by users. On the registration page, it asks for email, a verification code, and something else. It seems that you have to enter all 3 at the same time. But that's not the case. You enter your email address, then click the send button next to the code and wait for the email. THEN enter the verification code and everything else. For me it successfully helped me to register and log in. Next, connect to the lock via Bluetooth. I spent well over an hour trying to get it working with my phone. zero progress. He couldn't connect, he couldn't connect, the app could never see the lock. I've tried a dozen different tricks that I know from my long history of using tech devices for my work. Nothing worked. Eventually I got the idea to try this process on a standard Android tablet I had at work. Somehow it worked. I connected it via Bluetooth (I think I used code 0000, but timing is important, see below). Also, by using a standard Android tablet, I didn't have to worry about the app's excessive permissions being required for it to work at all. What makes this device even more difficult to communicate with is that it's a low-power device that turns on Bluetooth when you wake it up (by pressing the fingerprint button) and then turns itself off again after 3-5 _seconds_ of inactivity. This means you have to keep tapping on that item every time you try to talk to him. Well, once I got the tablet to see the lock, I was able to follow the steps to register my fingerprints (thumb and forefingers of both hands). ) This part of the process was refreshingly easy after all the other frustrations. except that at this point he has decided to give you voice confirmation of the process. in Chinese! Luckily the iconography is easy to follow and all 4 fingers are registered. I turned everything off, turned off bluetooth and took the lock offline. All 4 fingers work perfectly. It takes about 1-1.5 seconds to open when touched. I'll update it later after a few weeks/months in the real world.
