Nice concept in a bright lab Adult Beta Tested

Great device if - ONLY - it was easy to see without being in a very brightly lit room that didn't cast shadows, so a child the little one Touchpad with bulky Mr. Pencil (eyes get tired after 5-10 minutes without additional lighting). "Contrast" can be changed by +1 or -1, so don't expect anything (bad for the worse) from it. The pen is good but a bit clunky: the cartoonish face sticks out and prevents the child from holding the pen halfway correctly. Again, it's very odd that an education company would disregard the common sense and ease of use of silly marketing. The cord that attaches the stylus is in the center of the device, so don't worry about being left or right-handed. You can also use your finger, but this does not contribute to the development of writing skills. LOTS of actions (upper/lower case letters, numbers 1-10, only (6) shapes, phonetics and basic spelling (3 letter words), difficulty 1-3) and you can draw (sort of). There is a "Repeat" button which is handy as I have trouble hearing what the device is saying correctly (letters and wording). So if he says "Say CAT" and it sounds like CAP, MAP, PAT, or FAT, you can check ("repeat") it after you make a mistake. It would be great if they had more shapes and would be surprised that there are so few people from an educational company that teaches so many more shapes on their DVDs/tutorials and learning to draw shapes is also a great way to do it visually - Develop motor coordination. Plus, it can be less of a hassle than working with the alphabet and at least changing shapes everywhere. I found out from her DVD. =D We arrived with batteries already installed and the device felt very warm in 70 degree weather. So I'm not sure why they would ship it with batteries installed when the unit is running in extreme heat/cold conditions. Glad we were home when the package arrived. It's awful to imagine what would have happened if he had been left on the porch in the scorching sun for several hours. =, (I felt this deserved (2) stars as it is so frustrating to buy and spend money on study materials/equipment that are seriously lacking in many important areas. For example - NO - subtitles on their DVDs, Attachments that break off and the worst is when an electronic device forces you to replace batteries that are not even 1/3 depleted (1.5V AA and stops when it drops to 1V) When our little one a review I'm sure he would have given it a (4) star rating, so it seems fair to leave the (3) star rating =P_Good concept in a busy lab, beta tested by adults_
