I try not to use it because I don't want to cause discomfort, but if my cat howls at 4am and has everything she could possibly need, she won't get sick or pain, and it's too far to splash water, this thing works. I ended up buying her automatic toy that turns on and off every few hours for her to practice in the early hours and it helped a lot so I didn't have to use it too much but yeah! It definitely works for my cat. She doesn't like the sound and understands that it means a hard NO. Good thing I didn't like it - it took almost 30 minutes to get it out of the box and then over an hour trying to remove the tiny screws holding it together. I had to intentionally break off the belt clip to get access to one of the screws. I tried to open every piece of metal in my house. I even have a 4" mini screwdriver but that didn't work either. I got mad trying to open the damn thing. I ended up using a tiny metal file from some nail clippers. Batteries can be put in.
