This dog scans just terribly - everything wrong. I knew this from other people's reviews and don't really need the scans for anything other than references (so I don't have all the paper taking up space), but still - there's no excuse for this if it's a known issue. Another issue is that the default print quality, while good, is lighter/less dense than I'm used to. Others have noticed this, but there is a standard solution. To correct the default print quality, FOR THIS JOB ONLY: Insert your document and go to File/Print. From there, select "Printer Properties” directly under the name of the printer you are using. The Brother Print Utility pop-up window is shown above. Click on the "Advanced" tab and then click on "Other Printing Options" which will result in another pop-up window. In the new pop-up window, click Adjust Density, uncheck Default printer, and then move the slider slightly to the right to increase the print density. Click "OK" (don't forget to click "OK" or the new settings will not be saved) and the pop-up window will close. Click OK on the Brother Print Utility window. Print the job and check the print density. You can adjust the density until you like it. Note that all modern Brother printers have this feature. So if you're having this problem with a different printer, you know how to set it up. An even better way to make changes that persist from job to job: • Go to Control Panel/Hardware and Sound. /Devices and Printers• Right-click on the printer whose print density you want to adjust• Select "Printer Properties"• Click on the "Advanced" tab• At the bottom of this window on the left click on "Printing Defaults" (see screenshot) • The Brother window will appear. Click the Advanced tab". • Click More Print Options. • Another pop-up window will appear. Choose Density Adjustment. Uncheck the default checkbox and then move the slider to adjust the density and then click OK. Make sure you've given up everything by clicking OK. I miss the scan to USB feature that I've had with other Brother printers but I can live without it.
