Used to be a value, but no longer. Just pay a little more and get the real Amstel/Dyneema.

I ordered the same material (1.8mm) 2 years ago and the material was fantastic. Dense, tight weaving, comfortable to the touch. Well this is a slack, light and thin cable - obviously they are cutting costs at the expense of quality. See photo - the older model is light gray with a much denser weave. The new material is dark and very loosely woven. I work with a lot of Amsteel/Dynmeema/UHMWPE and this material has no value anymore. a tighter weave is more desirable for hand feel and to reduce snagging. A denser weave is slightly heavier but has extra strength. Splicing with a tighter weave is more difficult, but worth the extra effort. If you're already considering UHMWPE and are willing to pay more for it, just pay a little more to get Whip-It/Lash-It or Amsteel. These items are made in the USA and have customer support. This material is made in China and there is no way to contact the manufacturer/seller.
