I bought this roll to cut pieces to lay on the bottom of some wire shelves so that items would not be able to fall through the openings of the wire rails.The material was easy to cut through with a utility knife. It is thick enough so that it can withstand the weight of heavier objects or objects with sharp edges without easily being punctured.One side is ridged and the other side is smooth so you can choose whether you want the side that faces up to allow things to better stay where they are placed or easily slide across the surface respectively.If you do choose to have the ridged surface face-up then it's obviously a bit more difficult to remove sawdust, etc. which is likely to be found in a garage or workshop where I presume the product may typically be used.
