No intermittent modes of operation, just bright, even light. Probably waterproof. I've dropped it at 3m onto uncracked concrete 3 or 4 times and it works great. dropped it twice at 6 meters and it cracked the bezel ring but not enough to kill it. At <$2.00 each with battery it is AMAZING. The bezel ring has a protrusion that prevents it from rolling away. That is the promise of LED technology. The specified operating time of 60 hours has not been checked. But Eveready has never let me down. I bought six more. One for each trunk and one for each room in the house.
