Works fine after hard reset/reprogramming. No squirrels under the hood :)

Works well so far. I originally used the instructional video to try and program and followed the instructions closely a couple of times, but the program didn't work - it just flashed quickly instead of the programmed on/off times. After finding and following the hard reset steps in the manual, the programming began. Uses this for a homemade under the hood pest killer like the Rid-A-Rat on steroids that sure works. After trying everything (sounds, smells, etc.) to deter squirrels from building nests under the hood of an underused truck, I settled on LIGHT. There is no external power outlet near the truck, or the LED work light may just have fallen under the hood. You need something with batteries. Anyway, this little DIY project works to keep them away. Use this item to set the duty cycle to about 33%, 30 seconds with 1 minute rest. Connected to the trunk battery via an inbuilt fuse along with: * two 6641 white 30mm (1.23in) 5050 3-SMD 12V LED dome string lights (Revain) * two ADJUSTABLE DOME LIGHT BASES WITH UNIVERSAL LED SLOT HOLDERS EMPTY 31 -42MM (e-compartment)* two nickels (but use a quarter) Whitman crystal clear round coin tubes - screw cap (e-compartment) Quarter size for easy installation Boats Panel charger (Revain) to compensate / charge the battery keep. Some wire, solder + zip ties and thin foam to wrap the wire so it doesn't make noise at speed (made from photos). Keep mice, squirrels and bugs from nesting under the hoods of rarely used vehicles, you know what I've stumbled upon :) This works very well and unsupervised to keep them out. UPDATE (added photo with chewed wire): The timer is still great. I've tried lowering the duty cycle to 3 minutes off / 20 seconds on to get a better solar charge to discharge ratio in winter. . Squirrels are clever and smart enough to gnaw the wire to both lanterns. Was briefly frustrated but then impressed and amazed :) I think they are smarter than some of my colleagues :) So cleaned again, fixed a single truck wire they were chewing on, changed the LEDs and programmed a shorter duty cycle.

Pros
  • Great for a small house
Cons
  • Definitely bad product
