WARNING - Danger of overheating!

I left home for several hours with this adapter connected to a micro USB cable with no device connected. When I came back I saw four duplicate OS warnings that I had never seen before: USB devices are disabled Turn off a device that is using too much power to turn USB devices back on. This was the only USB cable I connected to my MacBook Air. When I unplugged the iXCC Micro USB Lighting Adapter, I noticed that it felt hot. I don't know if this marriage was defective or if I just got a bad one, but in any case I will return both. I do not recommend this product.
