Hacker I tested two popular laptop stands on the market - The Roost and The Nextstand. Roost launched with a Kickstarter campaign in June 2013 and worked so well that it later spawned several imitators. Nextstand Laptop Stand - Portable Laptop Stand - Laptop Stand for PC and MacBook is one of them. They're both great racks and will work as intended, but here at Pack Hacker we want to dig a little deeper. Portability: Roost immediately looks smaller. We weighed them ourselves and the Roost stand weighs 6.05 ounces while the Nexstand is slightly heavier at 8.2 ounces. A small difference in weight, but for those who travel a lot and watch their pack's weight or want to travel ultra-light, two ounces is no small matter. In terms of physical dimensions, the Roost measures 1.3 x 1.3 x 13 inches (3.3 x 3.3 x 33 m), while the Nextstand is 1.5 x 1.5 x 14 inches (3.81 x 3.81 x 35.6 cm). Again, we're talking about a pretty minor difference, but when you actually look at them, the Roost stand definitely feels more compact. Verdict? Roost wins in portability. It's smaller, lighter and has a better body. Ultimately, this means it fits better in your pocket or luggage. Durability and Sturdy: These coasters make the roost feel really solid and sturdy when you first pick it up. The rubber at the contact points where the stand touches the laptop is definitely higher quality than the Nexstand. The Nexstand has a slightly looser feel, more wobbly if that's the word, and the rubber is a lot firmer. When it comes to durability, Roost again wins for durability and strength. While the Nexstand marketing team is very fond of adding weights to their stand to demonstrate its durability, the Roost Stand is made from better materials - fiberglass-reinforced nylon rather than PVC - and has a much better feel. Versatility and Height: These two laptop stands will hold almost any laptop you can get your hands on, which is great. We've heard of a few cases where thicker laptops won't fit, but most laptops will work. The Roost stand uses a rubber swivel that snaps onto the front of the laptop, securing it in place. Stand is very beautiful. The Nexstand has the same type of bracket, although the harder plastic means it doesn't hold the laptop as well. Ultimately, that shouldn't be a problem, but if you bump your laptop against the Nextstand, it will most likely fall out of its stand. The roost stand offers three different heights that you can easily adjust, which is very convenient. Depending on the height of the table or chair, you may need to adjust the stand slightly. But Nextstand offers eight settings, which is amazing. Nextstand scores big here. It should also be noted that both stands have the same maximum height of 20.5 inches to the top of the screen on the 15-inch MacBook Pro. In terms of versatility and height, we just couldn't pick a winner - a tie. The roost stand holds different size laptops better and doesn't need extra clamps. But the Nextstand has much better height adjustment options, making it super versatile and comfortable. Price: This option is pretty obvious. At the time of writing this review, the Roost stand is $79.95 and the Nexstand is $29.95. We'll let you find out who won in this category. Who won which category?:- Portability: Roost- Durability and strength: Roost- Versatility and height: Tie- Prize: Nextstand Conclusion: The Roost stand is clearly superior to a laptop stand. At the same time, both stands are suitable, if you do not work in extreme conditions, then one of them is suitable for you. Ultimately, we believe this decision is price related. If you're the kind of person who likes to have the best gear (we fall into that category), go for Roost. If you're on a budget, the Nexstand will serve you well. After all, you can buy about three Nexstands for the same price as a roost stand and it's still a perfectly working stand. Pros: When folded, the Roost is lightweight, compact and easy to store. Holds most laptops very securely. Soft rubber contact points will not harm your laptop. Cons: You must bring your keyboard and mouse. The price is one of the most expensive portable laptop stands. Limited height adjustment compared to other tripods.
