Review on πŸ”ͺ Food Grade Mineral Oil and Natural Waxes Butcher Block Conditioner by John Taylor by Jae Pistono

John Taylor Butcher Block App.

I gave five stars because it works. In my opinion there are two ways to apply this. You can leave the cutting board and JT conditioner in direct sunlight for about 30 minutes until warm to the touch, or you can do like I did. I used a hair dryer (fan) to heat the entire surface of the panel. my cutting board until it is nice and warm. I spread drops of JT conditioner a few centimeters apart all over the surface. I heated each drop with a hair dryer until they were nice and warm and flowing. I used a new cellulose sponge cut into 1.5 inch squares and rubbed the conditioner along the grain of the wood. Add conditioner as needed and heat while applying. I highly recommend not pouring the conditioner all over the board as that would be wasteful. After the first coat has dried for about 20 minutes, reapply if needed, especially on a new cutting board that hasn't been treated with conditioner. Why heat the board and air conditioning? Beeswax, carnauba wax, and mineral oil are thick oils at room temperature. The heat makes it easy to rub into the cuts, cracks and pores of the wood, which means better protection against water and bacteria from living and penetrating the wood. On an unprotected board, bacteria live in these cracks and cuts, and water deforms the board over time. The smooth protection makes it easy to clean the board. How often do you take care of the board? Depends on how often you use it. If you see new cuts on a board that is typically white or a different shade than the rest of the board, it may be time to apply another coat. Don't forget to use this procedure on both sides and edges of the panel.
