Review on HiLetgo 2pcs ESP8266 NodeMCU CP2102 ESP-12E Development Board - Open Source Serial Module (2-Pack) by Juan Gomez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Cheap fake Chinese that doesn't work reliably and wastes time

One star but should get ZERO Background: I bought these a while ago and started working on a few projects over the holidays. To my dismay, I found that these Amica ESP8266 modules just don't work. I'm a hobbyist, Arduino, RaspPi, Linux and electronics, have been doing this for over 10 years or so. This is one of the most frustrating pieces of writing I've ever wasted on the misfortune of understanding. Let me elaborate on these modules: First, the CP2102 cannot run Linux, MacOS, or Windows. I almost always get the following error message after the sketch fails to load: cp210x ttyUSB0: failed set request 0x7 status: -110Second, module pinout is correct. Many who have shared their opinions on this forum have commented on this, so I won't go into too much detail. Third, the stability of this part - which I could get hold of to download the sketch - just wasn't enough to warrant even paying a US cent. The module hung, rebooted and would not allow serial connections to trace processes. All in all I don't think it was a waste of money but a HUGE waste of time. I can't turn back time, but I can spend my money elsewhere. HiLetgo will no longer be the Revain supplier I will be purchasing from in the future. If you value your time I suggest looking elsewhere for products. I hope this review was helpful. Addendum: If you are wondering whether I have followed the countless tips, suggestions, HOWTOs etc. on the Internet, the answer is a resounding yes. I scoured the internet to find anything I could find for this cheap piece of silicone (offensive language, not my style). After exhausting all ideas, I just gave up. Unless you want to know everything about UART, USB, and Arduino IDE/Python esptool error codes, you should stay away. The bottom line is that these modules eat up time. Save your time and effort and look for something more reliable.
