Full project description follows. I use NodeMCU as my web server and it works great. It was hard to find a code sample that actually connects outside of my LAN, but I found something. I also had to learn the basics of HTML. The only problem is that it has to be restarted every 4 or 5 days. Since I'll be keeping it in a remote location, I'll add code to the MEGA sitting next to it to restart the NodeMCU every few days by pulling the RST pin low. The clearance under the Green Pond Bridge in Cape…

This board doesn't work.

From what I have done there are several batches of these boards showing the same behavior. Obviously this is related to the frequency of the crystal on the board. The first symptom is that writing to the serial monitor in the Arduino IDE produces garbage. If I connect at 115200, I can only read the output if I set the serial monitor baud rate to 74880, which is a 40:26 ratio (is the crystal running at 26MHz instead of 40MHz?). As others have noted, most things will work anyway, and you can even

Some oddities but a great way to make an IoT device

This board has some really weird features. The first is the most obvious as it is a 3.3V only device which means you will need to use an external power supply for any 5V modules you wish to use with it. The next step is downloading the sketches. Although it works with the Arduino IDE software used on other boards, it requires a bit of tinkering to get it working. Especially if you want to use the serial monitor to view messages from the device. Finally, the printed labels on the board do not…

WiFi crashed on the first day but HiLetGo tried to fix it

I bought it and on the first day the WiFi stopped working. I played with it for an hour. I decided to open another package and give it a try. I plugged it in, programmed it and it connected straight away. I still couldn't get the first Wi-Fi to work even after following the online troubleshooting guides. If you don't need anything reliable, this product will work fine, but if you value Wi-Fi running for more than a day or two, avoid this product. Edit: I upgraded it to four stars. After about…

Rating updated. HiLetgo does everything right.

[2018-07-20] The seller contacted me to offer a replacement for these MCU boards. That's good customer service and I think I just had an anomaly in the batch I received. If anything goes wrong I will come back to give an update but HiLetgo is doing great at the moment. [Original Review] Poor quality of many of my parts. I bought a few of these and have most of them. manufacturing defect. On one of these, I had to readjust the solder on the USB connector because it didn't make contact when the…

Cheap fake Chinese that doesn't work reliably and wastes time

One star but should get ZERO Background: I bought these a while ago and started working on a few projects over the holidays. To my dismay, I found that these Amica ESP8266 modules just don't work. I'm a hobbyist, Arduino, RaspPi, Linux and electronics, have been doing this for over 10 years or so. This is one of the most frustrating pieces of writing I've ever wasted on the misfortune of understanding. Let me elaborate on these modules: First, the CP2102 cannot run Linux, MacOS, or Windows. I…
