Review on πŸ’ͺ Distribute Channels with the MINIMOD 2 MODULATOR: A Powerful Solution by Boss Spangler

Significant image improvement!

I bought this to use in a camper van I bought in 2017. When I bought it it had a satellite dome on the roof and I already had an old DirecTV Standard Definition (SD) receiver so I installed it like this: ran the satellite cable from the roof through the radio/DVD/TV combo controller on the wall, then to the cabinet where the DTV receiver was located, and then from the DTV receiver through a splitter to distribute the DTV signal to all 3 TVs. All connections were made with coax and worked fine until I had to upgrade to an HD (high definition) receiver because DTV is ending SD broadcasts. The new HD receiver only has an HDMI or component video output and I use a coaxial cable. Luckily I had an old RF modulator to use; It had component input and coaxial output, but picture quality suffered significantly. This minimod 2 replaces the HF modulator and I'm amazed at how good the picture is! I was a bit concerned as I couldn't test the unit by plugging it directly into the TV due to the setup of the TVs, so I called tech support and Keith told me to just skip that part and install it. He also gave me some tips on what to do if the TV can't see the channel. It took some time and I had to set up each TV individually, but they all found the same channel to work with. And these aren't your average home TVs - they're made primarily for the RV market. Jensens and Ferrions. If you are considering this unit, I say go for it. You will not regret it.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
