I recently bought an NW3 as a backup emergency radio. The radio is small and feels very solid. It receives AM, FM and NOAA weather frequencies. Surprisingly good sound for such a small radio. VHF and NOAA reception is excellent. It has a built-in rechargeable battery that can be charged with a USB adapter, handle or solar panel. It also takes 3 AAA batteries. I have found that there is no need to use AAA batteries as the internal battery has excellent lifespan. There is also a very bright LED flashlight. It has a standard USB port that you can use to charge your phone or other devices. The solar panel keeps the battery charged, when placed near a window. This is an excellent all-round handheld radio, including for non-emergency use. I'
