Review on Canon PowerShot Compact Digital Camera by Nap Olivas

Love this camera as a pocket replacement for a DSLR

I bought this camera because it was the only 1 inch camera of its generation that actually fit in my pocket and I'm MORE tired of it lugging around my camera bag all day - I literally plan my trips around "camera bag days" because I felt so stuck. My multi lens DSLR kit was heavy so I stripped it down to a compact DSLR and a spare lens but then I got frustrated that I had to wrestle with any size bag all day so I gave up and bought a 1 -inch pocket sensor camera. I wouldn't get anything lower than the G9 X, or it would be too close to my smartphone to mess around with a separate camera. The Sony RX100 got too big and its older generations didn't have the features that the G9 X has. Overall I'm happy with the image quality and really miss my DSLR only when it comes to zoom lenses and low light. I've taken a few trips with this camera rather than taking my DSLR with me and it's been great, but unfortunately a heavy, bulging bag with this camera has further forced me to just use my iPhone X for most purposes, even more liberating because even the G9 doesn't bother me. However, my iPhone X's camera now makes me painfully aware of how many pictures I'm missing because I don't have better low-light or zoom shots. What a cruel cycle! My full DSLR gear makes me carry around lighter DSLR gear, still having a camera bag makes me carry this pocket camera, the weight and bulk in my bag makes me carry just my phone's camera and use my phone's camera. it lacks enough low light and zoom performance that I miss the capabilities of my full DSLR kit.

Pros
  • Sturdy build
Cons
  • Some little things

Important missing features really hurt the overall package
