This phone holder works well. The base unit is firmly attached to the dashboard. A suction cup holder is (unfortunately) not included. You have to manually press the sides against the phone to hold it in place. (Some have latches on the sides if you press the phone's unlock button.) The sides are soft, which is very nice as it not only provides a secure non-slip grip, but also protects the side of the phone from damage. The bottom clip, for lack of better work, is spaced to fit a Lightning charger (or other) so you can use a cable to charge your phone while it's in the holder. The phone can be rotated from vertical to horizontal and seems to stay in place once everything is tightened. I will say that removing the phone is a little fiddly as the button/level to release the side grips works, but not so odd that I wouldn't consider it again. It seems to work great, maybe it just takes a little time to get used to this version of the trigger mechanism.
