I have to admit I was very skeptical. I used to carry an actual US military Camelbak, but age and abuse took its toll and it was eventually discontinued. As much as I like this particular Camelbak. I like this one better. I'll tell you exactly why: I've recently started hiking frequently, and we all know the benefits of a moisturizer. Well, the thing even has something for real. 1) The ability to keep water cold is a brilliant accomplishment. The hydration bladder storage pocket is lined with reflective material. Sounds useless, but I've been saying for years that it would make a world of difference. It does. After 8 hours of real camelbak (well before 8 hours to be honest) your water wasn't cold anymore. With this package it is. Wonderful. 2) Insulated water hose - Camelbak had this too, but the one on this pack seems to stay in place better. It's also extremely effective. 3) Cleaning Snake - Seems like a small thing, but a small hookah cleaning snake is nice to have. 4) It doesn't leak at all - my camelbak has been through hell and I've changed bite valves multiple times. The closure system of this backpack is slightly better and makes it easier to carry out surgeries on the go. 5) Storage - it has about the same amount of storage as my lower-end OG Camelbak. There are some lower side straps that Camelbak didn't use, but this backpack does. This helps protect the pack while running and they even have zipped pockets. Very beautiful! 6) Waterproof - This package is mostly waterproof which is impressive for its value. I got caught in a torrential downpour and the contents of my pack were about 95% dry so no complaints. This is where Camelbak has an advantage. I have never had water ingress in this backpack. 7) Straps - The shoulder straps are easy to adjust and very comfortable. The use of D-rings makes it easy to attach other gear like a baby water bottle with a vacuum insulated carabiner for extra capacity. I just wish they would use metal D rings instead of plastic D rings for packaging. I can change this part myself. But they haven't broken yet. If you're serious about hiking or any other activity, you know the importance of backpack modularity. Beautifully made.8) Overall Quality - The overall quality far exceeds the retail price. Again I was skeptical but very happy with what I got. In summary, I would say that this pack represents tremendous value compared to Camelbak's counterparts. Of course if you are doing serious whitewater or staging work I would suggest either changing some parts of this pack or buying Camelbak. But for the casual or even more avid hiker, it's all you'll ever need.
