Review on C & T Publishing Transfer Artist Paper, 8.5 x 11-Inch, Pack of 18 Sheets by Denise Davis

Product Good but instructions poor

I used TAP to transfer 3x5 photos onto memory foam quilting. The instructions state that you must use the iron at maximum power, a hard surface, no steam - everything is doable. I did a few normally, and then streaks and areas of poor transmission began to appear. The instructions were useless for troubleshooting, as was Leslie Riley's website. Elsewhere on the internet I found the following tips that should have been in the instructions. Once I started getting it right, I got great passes. You need to move the iron across the surface of the TAP. This is not press raising and lowering work. After lowering the iron for a few seconds to secure the TAP, begin moving the iron continuously across the entire transfer surface and continue moving the iron until the transfer is complete. It wasn't difficult for the 3x5 format. The next very useful fact from the Internet that was left out of the instructions was the time it took for the transfer. The instructions say you can't "digest" TAP, which is reassuring but doesn't tell you how long the transfer will take. For a small piece, 30-45 seconds should be enough. I gave mine about a minute just to be sure. Leslie Riley's book has some great tutorials on preparing photos for transfer by improving color, saturation and all the things photo software can do. This fixing process greatly improves the results, especially when dealing with old, faded photos.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons

Change IS NOT good - the Lesley Riley company should have never changed their formulation.
