((update under original review)) Before purchasing and after reading some reviews I thought I would have to put blockers between tank outlets to prevent chickens from getting into other tanks. To prevent this DO NOT CLOSE THE LID - the lids have built in grilles to prevent this. Water Flow - TURN this little pump all the way DOWN (the pump defaults to high, low, and high). Put a small immersion heater in the bottom (if your room temperature isn't 76-80), it will fit and there's a hole for the cord - the pump cord goes through too. It's calm in the pool - at first I was afraid of the "waterfall" in the last compartment, but so far the water level is at the "max" mark - everything is calm! Note that the initial filling was done by filling each compartment and filter reservoir halfway with water, turning on the pump, and then raising the water level to the maximum level (maximum water level is marked on the front of the Betta Falls). The filter cartridge is called the Aqueon QuietFlow Filter Cartridge, Medium (available from Revain or Petco). I added live plants and ran the tank before adding the bettas (about a week). The water flow (reduced to a minimum) does not crowd the plants, so it is enough to circulate the water together with the heater. I'll edit this review after adding bettas in case there are any issues, although I don't expect them. I took a thin plastic grid (bought at a hardware store, very cheap), cut it and attached it to the grids with small zip ties. I did this because the betta in the first tank was sucking its tail (it stayed in the tank but couldn't move). This mod fixed it. I went further and put this particular betta in the last tank because it's small and the current is the smallest there. I also added a plastic grille to the last tank. The average betta is fine and hasn't had any issues, but I've added a plastic grill to it just in case. I cut his trellis just below the water outlet point because the longer trellis created more suction and he spent more time on top. I recommend putting the larger betta in the first tank. The older betta I put there is perfectly happy. I turn off the filter to feed her (turn it off for about five minutes). The leaves in the photos are Indian almond leaves (good for bettas and naturally lowers pH).
