Review on Canon PowerShot ELPH 160 (White) by Robert Larris

Bought for an elderly mother after her old camera died. Tried to find within $125-150. I had two other Canon compact cameras, so I expected satisfactory quality for the price. Pros: - Cost - 20 megapixels (brute force) - Good image quality - Large rear LCD screen (her main wish, like her old camera, was very small) - Compact - Features her other camera didn't have (detection faces, focus, simple buttons, video) Cons: - If you read other reviews, many complain about the lack of material in the kit. It comes in a small brown box, no SD card, no USB cable, no user manual (just a tiny "introductory card"). - Did I mention the lack of an SD card? Serious? Couldn't they add a cheap 4GB or 8GB SD card? How much are they worth now, $2? - NO USB CABLE! Again, how can you not include a simple connection cable? The package is incomplete without an SD card and cable. - The AUTO function is useless in my opinion. It's constantly trying to change camera settings as you adjust the shot. My suggestion, turn it off and leave the camera in "Program/P" mode. Learn to use camera settings and become the best photographer. Know when to use FLASH and use that MACRO button! - The battery took some effort to snap into place. Before installation, you need to open the latch a little. She doesn't use it for very long but says she loves it, especially the large rear window. I need to give her a USB card reader so she can download pictures to her computer. Hopefully the battery life will be better than my other Canons. The price is probably right where it should be. It's not fashionable. I assume the quality is good enough for 4x6 and 5x7 prints. I will add an update in a month or two.
