My daughter loves this dress. Good quality. Nice. for your information. The band around the waist and the flower are separated, so you can wear it or not. There are loops on each side of the dress that the tie goes through to keep it in place, so you'll probably want to wear a tie. We forgot and the dress still looked beautiful.
