Review on πŸ”΄ Garmin Forerunner 220 Black and Red by Jason Arkin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

star product! - GPS, finder and accessories

Pros: Connects to satellites quickly, usually within 30 seconds for me, much shorter in most cases. Accurately records distance and allows me to customize gauges so I can always see my heart rate. When combined with a heart rate monitor, gives an accurate estimate of calories burned. Small and light enough to be used as an everyday watch while still not looking as bad as one. The screen is easy to read in daylight and the backlight is bright enough to read the screen in the dark. Cons: I can't think of any. I've had this watch for two weeks now and am primarily a cyclist although I run too. I bought it mainly to take with me on bike rides and it constantly displayed heart rate and elevation, two things that are pretty important on my rides and can't be displayed on my regular Cateye bike computer. When it saves rides and syncs them to my phone, it always clearly shows them as runs, although the Garmin Connect app makes it infinitely easy to turn that into a ride with just a few clicks. So for my purposes it works fine as a bike computer, except for the cadence data. The custom experience was excellent. Unlike a lot of smartwatches and the like, you can start using these right away before connecting them to your phone. The interface is simple and intuitive enough that you can change almost every setting to your liking with just a few clicks, very easy to use without having to read the instructions. You can adjust the automatic lap distance very easily, which is helpful for me as I like a one-mile lap distance when running but prefer a five-mile distance when cycling. Speed alerts can be easily toggled on and off, which again is useful as I don't need speed alerts when cycling. The battery lasts as expected, which is roughly the expected ten hours with GPS enabled. While I haven't drained it completely just yet using it as a watch, I expect it to last around two or three weeks on a single battery with that use. It's solid to say the least, especially when compared to modern smartwatches that are lucky enough to last fifteen hours on a single charge. I cannot recommend this product enough, if you are a runner or a cyclist, if you are looking for a mid-range GPS enabled watch that can run natively but is also easy enough to track your rides, buy it! You will not be disappointed.
