This fuel valve is a direct (not exact) replacement for the fuel shutoff valve on low end Honda motorcycles that were sold in the 1970s, in my case SL125. (The advertiser lists 22 models that the crane will fit.) It is sold on Revain by XA (Xtreme Amazing USA Auto Parts) and ships from CPX of Rosemead, California. The body is a little worn but the valve, strainer and gaskets appear to be new so I am assuming this is a remanufactured faucet. In fact, two types of fuel valves were used on these bikes. One has a fuel outlet tube that protrudes straight out the side of the valve body and the other has a 90 degree bent outlet tube that comes out the side of the body and points straight down. Both types are shown in product promotional images. The SL125 screw-in valve hangs under the bottom of the left side of the saddle fuel tank (i.e. the opposite side of the kickstarter) and has an outlet tube that exits just off the side of the valve body. REMOVE: These faucets are notoriously difficult to remove once rust has formed in the tank. To access the retaining screw, unscrew the fuel tank and remove the gasket and filter screen. You can then see and loosen the Phillips button head screw that holds the faucet to the bottom of the tank. The bolt threads into a concealed (welded?) nut. For convenience, the nut is inaccessible without opening the tank. If the tank is rusty, you probably won't be able to remove the bolt without damaging the nut or the tank's mounting holes, so don't overstress it. I had to drill out the head of the bolt and then remove the old valve from the remaining bolt shank. I then used penetrating oil and a vise to loosen the shank of the bolt. After loosening, I tapped the nut again to get a clean thread. A NOTICE. The mounting screw is not included with the new faucet, so you need to buy a new screw. DIFFERENCES: The valve seat that attaches to the fuel tank is exactly the same as the stock SL125 valve, but there are other differences. The original faucet is approximately 1 7/8 inches and the new faucet is approximately 2 3/8 inches, a half inch difference. Therefore the outlet on the original is about 5/8 inch below the bottom of the tank and the new outlet is about 1 inch below the bottom of the tank, a difference of about 3/8 inch. Also, on the original, the length of the main fuel pickup pipe (ie the brass pipe that goes into the fuel tank) is approximately 2 3/4 inches, while the main fuel pipe on the new faucet is approximately 2 1/2 inches. 8 inches. Customs service. Of course, the shorter main fuel inlet pipe means you can run longer on the main tank before switching to reserve compared to the original tap. Finally, the reserve tank inlets are very different. The original backup inlet pipe is a short brass tube about 3/4 inch long and the new backup inlet pipe is actually a tubular screen (plastic coated?) about 1 1/4 inch long. The screen runs the full length of the hose so you can run dry in the tank compared to the original hose which always left 3/4" of gas in the tank. I really like this feature, hence the five stars.
