Review on πŸ”Œ 32 Feet USB Extension Cable - TECHTOO USB 3.0 Active Repeater Cable, A-Male to A-Female with Signal Booster Chips by Gary Newman

Great for recording with USB2.0 and USB3.0 connection Canon cameras

I have this for recording with a Canon 5DIII connection on my 2008 iMac in my home studio - iMac not for editing (es is a bit old and slow for that), but for remote Live View shooting and checking focus - perfect! I've been looking at Tethertools cables and while I prefer their orange cables to the black ones for show, the price of this cable can't be beat for those of us on a budget. I went with the USB3.0 cable even though my Canon only has USB2.0 because I didn't want to buy it if I upgraded to a newer USB3.0 DSLR (which is backwards compatible and supports both standards). In my first tests I had no problems. I was recently helping a professional photographer who had a tethertools kit and we had to constantly unplug the camera and plug it back into Adobe Lightroom when it went out of sync, which seems to be a common occurrence. This is probably because the Macbook Pro's USB port doesn't deliver enough power to maintain the connection, and this is where it pays to choose a cable with a built-in signal booster. 30 feet is quite a long time, probably enough. for most studio photographers, and in my first test I had no problems connecting to the camera, recording, waking from standby, or transferring images. If this changes I will update this review. In addition to this cable, I bought a short mini USB 2.0 cable to stay connected to the camera at all times, which plugs into this cable and allows me to disconnect on the fly - you can." Close Do not connect this cable directly to the camera as it is just an extension cord. In theory you could string several of these cables together to get even more length but I would be concerned about voltage drop and unreliable performance unless you place somewhere in an active hub in the middle to boost the signal. The only downside to this cable is that it's quite thick but you need to have a decent amount of wire in the cable to spread the signal. It needs a little rubbing to to straighten it and I hear a slight rustling sound as I do this which leads me to believe the cable might be shielded to prevent interference You will need a short USB jumper cable to d connect this cable. to your camera as it only has one female connector on the end of the camera so you can choose USB Mini, Micro or whatever you have. I chose the Cerrxian Combo 9" Mini USB Cable as it has both left and right angle connectors. Using this (stress reliever) mount on my $7 MPU-105 L mount from a certain auction site I can connect to my iMac studio and shoot remotely with ease. For those on a budget this is a much cheaper solution than Tethertools, with initial performance that should be on par with these products.
