They cannot protect the ear from water in any way. At first I didn't know whether to laugh or be angry when I opened the package. When you place an order, be very careful when opening it. I tore four before one successfully opened. They're so compressed it's ridiculous. I thought they could be hidden one behind the other, but they aren't. If you seriously need to keep water out of your ear, they won't. I have small ears and can barely fit. I ended up opening 4 and then used medical tape to secure the piece to my face, they are very thin. I don't know what they will be good for but I will try to return them and see what happens. If not, I'll write it off as a $10 bug. I was really hoping for the best.
