After reporting that the auto-on function was not working, a replacement pump was sent promptly. When a replacement had the same issue, a company representative worked with me to try and resolve the issue. After many emails trying to explore different possibilities, a solution was found. As it turned out, the problem wasn't with the pump, but with the water I had to pump. I collected clean rainwater and it wasn't conductive enough to trigger the switch when the level rose. The pump had to be adjusted a bit and has been working perfectly ever since. Thank you to the staff at Watershed Innovations Co. I would definitely recommend this company for customer service.
