It takes a lot of shaking to activate the color, but some of it oozes out literally everywhere. They also don't spread the paint the same way as sometimes it's a smooth streak and other times it's oily and dripping. Also, these things should not be written on surfaces that will cause the marker to bleed. I used white over a pre-painted blue finish, after which the tip was painted blue. Unless you're buying them to use on paper or some other smooth surface AND you don't care that your art looks perfect (I do), I don't recommend it.
