I bought this sharpener because it was a very similar design to a few other famous systems at 1/4 the price. Let's be honest, none of these systems are very high tech and basically use the same sharpening principles. The main difference lies in the sharpeners or stones used. The three diamond cuts in this system provide a good base area for shaping and lightly polishing a knife blade. The best whetstone is said to be 1500 grit and seems to do a good job of finishing. The hons appear very flat and consistent. However, my biggest concern is that this company still does not offer customer support or accessories for this product. There is no substitute or alternative. They use the same size as KME, Hapco and possibly Viper, so some of them can be used as an option. Also, the standard clamping tools simply snap into place with a slight interference fit. I doubt it will last long and either a spare holder should be available or another piece of equipment would be required to hold the whetstones in place after a few uses. Otherwise, the construction feels solid and should hold up well. There were some assembly issues that required some filing and shaping. No big surprise for an item so imported. Update: Seller says replacement hon kits will be available soon. That's good news because for now these three diamond sharpeners are doing their job perfectly and seem to be all that is needed for a good sharpening. I also 3D printed my own holders to fit a standard 4" x 1" x 1/4" sharpening stone. Works great.
