Great result for my dog!

My boyfriend and I adopted a former Seaworld show dog 2 months ago. He is used to cages, but unfortunately doesn't want to go into the cage at night. Apparently, when he was with Pets Ahoy, he enjoyed walking around in his stall between shows. I know this is a staple for him and I will always be patient with him. Unfortunately he left us no choice but to pick him up every night and put him in front of the pits for us to enter. The only time he ran there greedily was when we fed him in the cage. I also worked with him on boxing training exercises to show that this is a positive space. So I started looking online for ways I could get him to voluntarily pit. When thinking about getting him a playpen, I saw reviews that their dogs prefer it to a cage. And some also say that their dogs managed to get out. Knowing my dog I bought him with confidence due to his calm demeanor. Even if I can go back to work and my boyfriend can travel to work, it would be nice if he had that much space. As soon as it arrived we set it up for him. We put two dog beds to make him comfortable. I also introduced him to the arena by feeding him treats there. Surprisingly, the first night he went there voluntarily, unbeknownst to us, as we were going to bed. My friend wasn't sure yet because he said it could only happen once. But he was proven wrong and our sweet dog continues to go there alone until we retire. Now that I think about it, he had two roommates who he'd shared space with while on the show for the last several years. I think it's handy for him to have so much space compared to the box because he's used to it. This is just my guess and I could be wrong. But to me it makes sense! I recommend this or any other playpen you'll find if you're a dog owner and looking for a different option when it comes to bedtime. I leave the cage next to the playpen in case he decides he wants to be in a smaller space. My dog is 14 pounds and 45 inches and is 61 fit years old. It's pretty roomy!
