Review on Apple 27 Inch Retina Desktop MK472LL by Boyan Jakimov ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

One of the best deals, glad I bought this.

I've been a part of the Apple ecosystem for a while; I use it for photography and development, not for playing games. I debated for a very long time between the iMac 27 and the MacBook Pro 16 (there were MacBook Pro 13 and 15 before that). I made the choice to accept the iMac 27 as a result, and I don't regret it at all. A second monitor is not required because 27" can display many programs simultaneously. In contrast to the MacBook Pro, you may add RAM to this model yourself, and the processor operates at full speed. I fully loaded the computer with everything I needed for work—including an IDE from JetBrains, Docker, a virtual machine, messengers, Google Chrome with 30 tabs, Word, and Excel—but I was only able to load it by 15% on average, with a huge power reserve of 25%. When the RAM is still insufficient, the process moves onto the swap, which is perfectly suited for the job thanks to the NVMe drive. However, there is a noticeable difference between the desktop and mobile processors. With these tasks running, the MacBook Pro started to become very hot, produce noise, and freeze. Oh my God, compared to the MacBook Pro, it is completely silent. To avoid the switch, however, I chose to get 32GB of RAM, and this model has a subtlety. The slots have to have a 19 (CL19) 2666 MHz delay. A comparable OEM SODIMM DDR4 16GB Hynix original PC4-21300 2666MHz CL19 heatsink 1.2V was what I purchased. There is a subtlety to memory installation; because there are paired slots in this model, the native memory must go in the top two (from top to bottom) and the new memory must go in the bottom two. If you install a different memory model in one of the paired slots, the frequency will be reduced to 2133 MHz. I purchased a standard M. Video model (i5 3.3 GHz, 512 SSD). I am including a picture of the package after arrival because there are several pictures and videos of the iMac itself on the Internet.

Pros
  • 10th generation processor, quick NVMe drive, Radeon Pro 5300, ideal screen size and quality right out of the box, SD card reader, 3.5mm connector, and USB 3.0 ports, expandable RAM up to 128GB, and decent sound quality from the built-in speakers.
Cons
  • Instead of the reverse, I would prefer 4 USB Type-C and 2 USB 3.0. Installing 16GB of RAM would be possible as early as 2022.
