Everything is fine except for the power adapter. The cars each thumped slightly on the track by about 1/8 inch, that's it. Everything checked. I picked up an old voltage regulated power supply from storage. Rated to 6V/1.5A by Radioshack (of all things). Works great now! Keep in mind. This isn't a deal breaker for people like me, but others who don't have spare adapters / don't know how to fix this problem quickly may get frustrated.
