I actually bought this to mark my mask cut material. It keeps the pattern on the material even and "rectangular". It's a good width and length to use on my desk so I can lay out the whole piece for writing and not have to keep moving the ruler. I suppose I could have bought a special sewing tool but they only seemed useful for that. Since this is useful for all kinds of uses and can be hung in the basement, storage is not required. It's heavy enough to hold the fabric in place when reaching across the table to mark the top, unlike cheap plastic rules. Markings and numbers are large and easy to read.
