Only suitable for certain fans. It seems easy, but depending on where you need to cut the chain link and insert the connector, it might not work. On ours, our fan has a hole for the chain to come out of, but since we had to plug it in there, the chain no longer pulls through the hole, making the pulling useless. To get around this we had to drill through the metal on our fan to make the hole wider. Finally, after an hour, the chain is now fed through the metal hole on the fan! We then tried taking the shortcut, we didn't want to take the whole fan apart AGAIN and thread the chains through the hole so we thought we could try bending the pendant a bit and putting it on the chain. It broke right away. The product would be great if it worked for our fan, so be aware that depending on the device, this can be a daunting task. Also, do not try to bend the charms where they connect to the chain. I have another set of fans that have a connector closer to the hanger itself and they worked great the first time, took 1 minute to install. It lasted over an hour (due to our special fan) and finally didn't work. This is a good product if you have the right fan, but you won't know until you try it.
