I don't know what the purpose of this device is but I bought it to block the magnetic switch on my laptop case which made it think the case was closed and the screen was always off I attached a magnetic device (in this case, the monitor of the second Sidetrak laptop). I read about this hack as it is an issue that affects other smart skins as well. I placed all 6 rectangles 3 layers deep on the corner of my laptop with a magnetic switch and glued them there with glue. Booyah, no more black monitor and I have 2 monitors in my laptop again!
