Review on πŸ”’ AdvancedGuard Tamper-Resistant Electrical Outlets - Safeguarded Insputer Receptacles by Charles Butler

Good replacement for an RV socket, takes up less space in the electrical box

I ordered this insputer socket with two USB ports for my RV installation. It has replaced the regular outlet under the cushions in my dining area so I can charge my devices while sitting there. As it turned out, the unique design of this outlet was perfect for my application. Due to the fact that RV sockets without an electrical box are rather uncommon, I was concerned that I might have to widen the hole, but this fits in well. It also has a slightly different design for how the wires are connected. It has two small holes on each side for the neutral and hot wires with a small pan head screw that tightens the internal terminals when you insert the wires into the holes. The ground wire is attached in the conventional manner. Just make a shepherd's hook on the wire, place it under the screw and tighten. slightly easier to install in a switch box than my others. My only concern is that when I check the voltage between the hot side and ground, I only get 14 volts from the front of the outlet. But when I measure the voltage from the hot wire to the ground screw on the back I get 120 volts. I asked a question on the seller's site and it hasn't been answered yet, but I'm wondering if this is a function of the electronics in the device? When I hook up a circuit tester it says it is properly grounded and polarized. But otherwise I am completely satisfied with this socket and find the asking price very reasonable.

Pros
  • Works for multiple devices
Cons
  • boring packaging
