Review on πŸ”’ Airscape Lite Plastic Dry Food Storage Canister: Preserve Food Freshness with Patented Airtight Lid, Clear Container [Medium 7-Inch] by Erin Henderson

Also, it just doesn't feel like a very strong sealing system.

2. UPDATE: The more I use it, the more I like it. At this point I would give it more than 3.5 stars and recommend it with the following caveats. Once you get used to sliding the inner lid and replacing the top lid, the process becomes more familiar. I really feel like it keeps my beans fresher because I can squeeze out all the air to the point where the lid touches the beans. This medium size works well for a full pound of beans, but I'll order a small one for the smaller 12-ounce beans I usually buy locally. . Once you get used to sliding the inner lid down and clicking the latch to latch it, it now feels a little more secure than my first impression. It has the advantage of allowing excess air to pass over the grains, although the sealing system may not be very reliable. Next time I would still look at a smaller container and/or add the original round/stainless steel container to my collection. Airscape's round container (stainless steel) is well known for keeping coffee beans etc fresh. I wanted a clear container, so Airscape uses this square design instead. The problem with the square design is that the sealing system feels finicky. The inner lid fits snugly against the inner wall of the container and has a valve that allows air to escape when you lower the lid onto the contents (coffee beans or whatever). The idea is to squeeze out most of the air to keep the contents fresh. However, the square lid does not stay flat when you slide it down the side of the square container, which can create leak channels around the lid gasket. It also just doesn't feel like a very reliable sealing system. The container comes with a second top lid that also has a seal that barely seems to close the container. I'm not sure why you would need a top cap with a different seal if the inner cap seal is not reliable. Another problem with this container is that it takes a lot of work if you want to get hold of coffee beans etc. quickly. you close it; and every time you have to be very careful to keep the inner lid straight when you put it back in place. And then you have to remove the second cover as well. Sometimes I need quick access multiple times in a brewing session and don't want to fiddle with lids. Finally, note that this is 64 oz. The container is too large for a small amount, such as 1/2 pound of beans. I'm guessing it holds over 1lb, but then again, the tall bin means you have to slide the lid down further, making it even more difficult to control the inner lid and keep it level as you lower it.

Pros
  • STRONG AND STACKABLE β€” Perfect size for a kitchen counter or easily stackable for a compact pantry. The average Airscape canister holds about 1 pound (500 grams) of whole bean coffee. Dimensions: 4.5" W x 7" H
Cons
  • Crumpled
