A well assembled block. It would be great if it worked. Win 7 64x system - drivers and software work. BUT I can't get more than 768 readings - all data after that is wrong. Data loading fails completely when set to 2000 or more data points. Technical service is a little slow, but they helped me sort out a couple of possible issues, concluded my unit was defective, and sent another one. The 2nd device arrived and worked the same way. More technical support via email and trials. Second PC with Win 7 64x tried as a PC with Win 7 32x - same performance. Technical support concluded that the second unit was defective and sent the third. Same results. Used the supplied software on the CD and also downloaded (same version) from their website. I found the obvious website of the company supplying the drivers. Downloaded SDK - it had a different driver version but the same result. I now have 3 devices that work fine when set to 500 data points (or less). I wanted data collection to take between 2 and 10 seconds for my current project, but I'll settle for 10 minutes of data collection to get the job done. It will take a bit of 2 second work to make sure I don't miss any short term variation. Lots and lots of extra work - the only good thing is that I got 3 units (no return required for 'defective' units). When I have time I will build Windows XP on my computer to see if they work with older Win systems. The latest Extech software is version 5.6 as of this writing, from early 2011. Win 7 64x driver - version 3.3. If later versions are available, the problems may have been fixed. I received three faulty devices, or is there a software bug preventing the device from fully working on a Win 7 system? Or bad if your system is Win 7. I think this is a Win 7 issue and I will continue to correspond with tech support, but regardless of the future outcome, for me the device deserves two stars or less.
