The main advantage that made me choose these spoons was the flat edges. At first I wasn't sure how the baby food would work on this spoon, how could it stay and not slip right away? Well, let me tell you, the longer spoon head is perfect for very finely blended baby food. The flat edges are perfect for scraping down the sides of the bowls and getting food out of your baby's mouth. The longer handle keeps fingers away from baby food. They are dishwasher safe. The built-in spoon rest was not chosen/used by us personally, so I cannot speak to its usefulness. The only downside I see with these spoons is that the edges stain VERY easily when used for items like carrots or sweet potatoes. After a dressing of carrots, you can kiss and say goodbye to the uniformity of color. Also keep in mind that the plastic on the spoon head is not very hard, so older children who like to chew can chew on this plastic. Spoon.
