I can't comment on the ease of installation as I paid a professional to do the entire installation of my stereo. I use this pen with Kicker CXA400.1. I was hoping since having a 4 year old that I could use this to cut enough bass in the car with my daughter and at the same time easily crank the bass to the max when I'm alone in the car. Done and done! At the lowest setting on the knob I have almost no bass. At the highest level I can't even look in my rearview mirror because of the bass! Of course your mileage may vary depending on your stereo, but for me it was exactly what I wanted! I really like that the knob "clicks" when turning instead of spinning freely as I can feel exactly where the setting is when using it. Of course, some say that if the gain is set properly, the knob isn't needed. However, for those of us with kids (or the testy spouse who doesn't appreciate good bass) this was the perfect solution! Very satisfied.
