Review on Sharper Image Pedometer SR353 HR 887 by Kim Sanchez

Too big, doesn't work

I was looking for the perfect pedometer with built in radio that accurately measures walking and running, with a good radio and well placed buttons. There are too many bells and whistles in this one. You must turn on the stopwatch function before it starts measuring steps, and it turns off after 10 hours; impractical if you're trying to log the whole day's steps. The size is too big - bigger than a mobile phone. The biggest problem, however, is that it's not accurate. The first one I got from Sharper Image dropped my steps by a factor of 10 compared to another pedometer I wore (which was accurate but whose radio didn't work while the pedometer worked). There were some settings I could tweak. They offered to send a new one, no questions asked, no return required, no need to document date of purchase. I was amazed and delighted when a new one arrived a few days later. Unfortunately it overwrites the steps by about 2 times. Although I did not contact the company again, I did mention it on the website where I was asked to rate my online shopping experience. Was I ever shocked when a day later I received an email from Sharper Image saying they would credit me the full purchase price for a second defective product and I could keep or discard the product at my discretion! So I still use it because it's a good radio and I really appreciate the manufacturer's strong focus on customer service. However, I would love to find a product that does what this one promised!
