These two tools are used to crimp and "break out" the spindle nut on the CV shaft. Crimping a nut onto a shaft is not a difficult task, most mechanics simply use a cold steel chisel to do the job. And I haven't used a crimping tool yet. I wanted a different tool to "spread" the nut off the shaft. I have found that using other tools for this (like a center punch) will damage the threads on the nut and then removing will damage the threads on the CV shaft. I was hoping this tool would "unthread" the nut well enough to hold the threads on the CV shaft. But I found that the threads on the CV shaft were damaged in the same way as when using a center punch. Hence, I was disappointed with the results of using this tool.
