At first I was skeptical of claims that this device removes CO2 gases. It seemed like a gimmick until I noticed that a similar feature is built into the center of every single-use aluminum flip-top lid on the ground coffee cans I buy. It's a simple principle, but it works to keep things fresh. The canister is beautifully finished with a matte finish on the sides and a glossy lid. The glossy surface picks up fingerprints more easily than the sides, but also wipes clean easily. The seal is durable and works well. The clamping mechanism is easy to use and opens and locks securely. There's a slightly sharp edge where the bottom of the hinge meets the lever, but that's a fairly standard issue with these stamped metal designs and I don't see that as a downside. I was a little confused by the inclusion of two replacement silicone/plastic vents and I couldn't figure out how to put a new one in (or figure out how to remove the old one). Since no instructions were included, I had to do a bit of troubleshooting, but it's a simple procedure. Open the lid, place it on a hard surface and push it out from the bottom with a wooden spoon or other object. Coffee. But if I were using this for anything other than coffee, I'd be comfortable keeping freshness in mind. I like the scoop and the way it hangs on the canister. The rubber pad also feels good in the hand. He cleaned up my pantry countertop and I was able to get rid of the coffee can and old plastic scoop that always got in the way of my cooking (or got lost behind my other appliances). I'm really happy with the quality of this can. Overall, this makes the work of making coffee easier. No more unsightly coffee cans, no more risk of a rusty ring on my countertop, no more plastic lid taking up space while I scoop, etc. It's neat and clean, well made and does the job perfectly.
