Cannot be charged while in use

I bought this to use with my MacBook Air. I love storing extra files on a micro SD card, but when I use a custom one I can't charge the computer because the device is too wide. I knew this would be the case before I bought it, but after using the adapter for a few months it got quite frustrating. If there was a female USB-C connector it would be 5 stars, but due to lack of versatility - 3.
